Good writing is easy to read, but the things that slow a reader down are hard to spot in your own draft. A sentence that runs too long, a passive construction, a word with a shorter alternative. You read past them because you already know what you meant.

This checker marks them for you. Paste your text and it highlights each kind of issue in its own color, counts them, and gives you a reading grade so you know who can follow it. It all runs in your browser, so your draft is not uploaded or saved anywhere you did not choose.

Questions about the writing style checker

What does each highlight mean?
One color marks sentences that are long or very long, another marks passive voice, another marks adverbs, and another marks words that have a simpler alternative. A legend next to the text explains the colors.
What is the reading grade?
It is an estimate of the school grade level needed to read your text easily, based on sentence length and word length. Lower is easier. Most web writing aims for around grade 8.
Is my writing uploaded?
No. The analysis happens in your browser on this device. Nothing is sent to a server, and only your current text is kept locally so it is there if you come back.
Do I have to follow every suggestion?
No. A long sentence or a passive verb is sometimes the right choice. The highlights show you where to look. You decide what to change.
