Peripheral Vision Test

Keep your eyes fixed on the centre while dots flash around the edges, and catch as many as you can. This free peripheral vision test checks how well you notice things off to the side without looking straight at them. It is an awareness drill, not a medical field test. Nothing is uploaded and there is no sign-up.

Test your peripheral vision, the part of your sight that picks up movement and shapes away from where you are looking. Fix your eyes on a cross in the centre, and dots flash briefly at the edges of the screen. You react when you spot one, and the test tracks how many you catch and how far out you notice them. It is a fun awareness exercise for drivers, gamers and anyone curious about their side vision, though it is not a substitute for a proper visual field exam.

Peripheral Vision TestStare at the centre cross and don't move your eyes. An arrow flashes off to the side each trial — say which way it pointed using only your side vision. An awareness drill, not a medical visual-field test; it only works if you keep your gaze centred.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Fix on the centre

Keep your eyes locked on the cross in the middle and try not to glance around. The test relies on you holding your gaze.

  2. 2

    Catch the flashes

Dots appear briefly toward the edges. React the moment you notice one out of the corner of your eye.

  3. 3

    See your awareness

The test scores how many flashes you caught and how far from centre you were still spotting them.

When it comes in handy

Train side awareness

Useful for driving and sport, where noticing movement off to the side matters as much as what is ahead.

Gamers

Wide awareness helps you track the edges of the screen without moving your eyes off the action.

Test your range

See how far into your periphery you can still reliably catch a brief flash.

Frequently asked questions

What is peripheral vision?
It is the vision outside the small central area you focus on, covering everything you sense off to the sides. It is lower in detail and colour than central vision but very good at picking up movement, which is why something at the edge of your view catches your attention.
Is this a medical visual field test?
No. A clinical visual field test uses calibrated equipment and careful fixation control to map your sight precisely. This is a casual awareness drill on a screen, so use it for interest and practice, not to judge whether your peripheral vision is medically normal.
Can I improve my peripheral awareness?
You can get better at using it, mainly by learning to hold your gaze steady and pay attention to the edges rather than darting your eyes around. Athletes and drivers train this. The underlying width of your field, though, is mostly fixed.
