Frequently asked questions
- How accurate are clothing size conversions?
- They're a guide, not a rule. Clothing sizing is not standardised, so two brands can label the same measurements as different sizes, and sizing has drifted larger over the years. Use the chart to get close, then check the garment's own size guide and your body measurements before you buy.
- Why are US and UK sizes so different for women?
- Women's UK sizes run four numbers above US, so a US 8 is a UK 12, and EU sizes are higher again at 40. For men's tops the three often line up on the same S-M-L, and for jeans both US and UK label the waist in inches, so those match.
- What does the international S-M-L mean?
- It is the alpha grouping, XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL, used on a lot of casual clothing worldwide. Each letter covers a small range of numbered sizes, which is why the chart shows, for example, a women's M spanning US 8 to 10.
