A standard modular brick with a 3/8 inch joint covers about 6.9 bricks per square foot, so a wall runs to roughly 7 bricks for every square foot of face.
Mortar bags are a rough guide at about 125 bricks per bag and vary with joint size and mix. Half bricks at openings and corners add waste, so keep the allowance at 10% or more and confirm against your supplier before ordering.

- How many bricks do I need per square foot?
- A standard modular brick with a 3/8 inch mortar joint covers about 6.9 bricks per square foot, so a wall works out to roughly seven bricks for every square foot of face. Larger queen and king bricks cover fewer, about 5.8 and 4.8 per square foot.
- How does this how-many-bricks calculator handle doors and windows?
- Add up the area of every opening and enter it in the openings field. The tool subtracts that from the gross wall area so you only pay for the brick you actually lay, then applies the waste allowance to what is left.
- What waste allowance should I use for brick?
- Ten percent is a sensible default. Cutting bricks at openings, corners and the ends of courses creates offcuts, and a few always crack or arrive chipped, so a running fence or feature wall with lots of edges may want a little more.
- How many bags of mortar will I need?
- As a brick quantity calculator it estimates roughly one bag of mortar mix per 125 bricks with a standard joint. That is a planning figure only, since a thicker joint, a wider brick or a leaner mix all change how far a bag goes.
- Does the brick face size change the count?
- Yes, and it is the biggest factor. Each brick claims a face of its length plus the joint by its height plus the joint, so a taller or longer brick covers more wall and drops the count. Set the exact size you are buying for an accurate number.
- How accurate is the brick estimate?
- The count is exact for the wall area, brick size and joint you enter, with waste added on top. Real walls lose bricks to breakage, half-bat cuts and pattern bonds, so treat it as a close planning figure and confirm the pallet count with your supplier.
