Frequently asked questions
- How do I find my sales tax rate?
- Combined state and local rates vary by city and county. Your receipt usually lists it, or your state revenue site has a lookup by address.
- How does removing tax work?
- Given a tax-included total, the calculator divides out the rate to recover the original pre-tax price and the tax portion, handy for expense reports.
- How do I calculate sales tax on a purchase?
- Multiply the price by the tax rate as a decimal, then add it to the price. On a $50 item at 8% tax that is $50 times 0.08, or $4 tax, for a $54 total.
