This tool removes numbers from text. By default it takes out whole numbers, including the commas and decimal points inside them, so "$1,299.00" leaves cleanly rather than leaving stray punctuation behind. Switch it to digit mode instead and only the 0-to-9 characters are removed, leaving other symbols in place. Either way, an option tidies up the double spaces that removing numbers can leave, so the result reads naturally. It is handy for anonymising figures, cleaning data, or pulling the words out of a mixed line.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the two modes?
The whole-number mode removes a run of digits together with the commas and decimal point inside it, so "1,299.00" disappears completely and leaves no stray punctuation. Digit mode removes only the 0-to-9 characters, so "1,299.00" would leave ",." behind. Whole-number mode is cleaner for prices and measurements; digit mode is more literal.
Does it remove numbers written as words?
No. It works on numeric characters, not on words like "three" or "twelve", which are ordinary text as far as the tool is concerned. If you need those gone too, you would remove them as words separately, since spelled-out numbers are indistinguishable from other vocabulary.
Will removing numbers leave odd gaps?
It can, because taking a number out of the middle of a sentence leaves a space on each side. That is why the "Tidy leftover spaces" option is on by default: it collapses the resulting double spaces and trims spaces before line breaks so the text stays readable.
