Frequently asked questions

How is keyword density calculated?
Density is a word's count divided by the total number of counted words, shown as a percentage. So if a word appears 8 times in 400 counted words, its density is 2 percent. The total reflects the words that passed your filters, so turning on "skip common words" or a minimum length changes the base and therefore the percentages.
What counts as a common word?
The "skip common words" option ignores a built-in list of English function words — the, a, and, of, to, in and similar — that appear frequently but carry little topic meaning. Removing them pushes the words that actually describe your content to the top of the ranking.
Does it treat "run" and "running" as the same word?
No. Each distinct spelling is counted separately, so "run", "runs" and "running" are three entries. The tool counts words as they are written rather than reducing them to a common root, which keeps the results exact and predictable.
