This tool scrambles the letters within each word of your text. In "keep first and last" mode it shuffles only the middle letters, which produces the well-known effect where the words are jumbled yet still surprisingly readable. In "fully random" mode every letter of each word is shuffled, giving a proper anagram-style scramble. Spaces, punctuation and line breaks stay where they are, so only the letters move. Frequently asked questions

Why can I still read the "keep first and last" version?
When only the middle letters of a word are shuffled and the first and last stay put, readers recognise the word from its overall shape and its known start and end, filling in the rest. This is sometimes called the typoglycemia effect. Short words of three letters or fewer are left unchanged because there is nothing in the middle to scramble.
Does the same text always scramble the same way?
It stays the same until you ask for a new arrangement. The scramble is generated deterministically so it does not flicker or change on its own as you adjust options. Press "Shuffle again" to produce a different mix, and each press gives a fresh, stable result you can copy.
Are punctuation and capital letters kept?
Punctuation, spaces and line breaks are left exactly where they are, since only the letters inside each word are moved. Capital letters travel with the character they are on rather than being fixed to a position, so a scramble may move a capital into the middle of a word; that is expected in a letter-level shuffle.
