This tool wraps text at a fixed number of characters, inserting real line breaks so every line stays within the width you set. It breaks on spaces so words are kept whole, which is what you want for email, plain-text posts, code comments and anything that has to fit a column. Set the width — 72 and 80 are common — and paste your text. If you are dealing with long unbroken strings like URLs or IDs, turn on "Break long words" so they are split to fit rather than overflowing the line.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between soft and hard wrapping?
Soft wrapping is what your editor does on screen: the text looks wrapped but is still one long line underneath. Hard wrapping, which this tool does, inserts actual line-break characters so the wrapping is baked into the text and survives being pasted elsewhere. Use hard wrapping when the receiving system needs real line breaks.
Does it split words that are longer than the width?
Only if you turn on "Break long words". By default a word longer than the line width is left whole and simply overflows, because splitting words changes their meaning. For things like long URLs or hashes, enabling the option splits them so every line truly fits.
Are my existing paragraphs preserved?
Yes. The tool wraps within each line you already have and keeps your line breaks between paragraphs, so the structure stays intact. It only adds breaks to keep lines under the width; it does not merge your paragraphs together.
