Why is it a course-by-week grid?
Because that is how a semester actually collides. Putting classes in rows and weeks in columns shows where several deadlines pile into the same week, which a plain calendar hides. You fill each cell with the deadline, quiz or exam for that class and week.
How many weeks should I choose?
Match it to your term. A standard semester runs about 15 to 16 teaching weeks, so 16 suits most, while 14 fits a shorter term and 18 covers a longer one with exam weeks included.
