Frequently asked questions
- How do I write a date in Roman numerals?
- Convert each part of the date separately: the day, the month number and the year. February 14, 2025 becomes XIV for the day, II for the second month, and MMXXV for the year, usually written as XIV • II • MMXXV. This tool does the conversion and assembles the three parts in whatever order you choose.
- Should the day or the month come first?
- Either is fine, it is a style choice, not a rule. Day-month-year is common in Europe and reads XIV • II • MMXXV, while month-day-year is common in the US. Pick the order that matches how you normally write the date, and keep it consistent.
- Can I download the date as an image for a tattoo?
- Yes. Choose your layout, font and background, then use Download PNG. A transparent background is handy because your tattoo artist can drop the numerals straight onto a design, and the image stays crisp when scaled up.
- Why does the year 2000 show as MM and not MMD or similar?
- Roman numerals have no zero, so round numbers simply use fewer symbols. Two thousand is two thousands, MM. The year 2025 adds twenty-five on the end to make MMXXV. The tool handles the arithmetic so every date comes out correctly.
